Constellations
Performances in English from 26 January
Written by acclaimed British playwright Nick Payne, this compelling and unconventional love story explores the infinite possibilities of human relationships through the lens of quantum physics. Director Raphael Tobia Vogel (Per Strada, Buon anno, ragazzi, Marjorie Prime, Mutuo Soccorso, Scene da un matrimonio, La reginetta di Leenane) brings Payne’s open-ended dramatic structure to life, delving deep into his characters to create a production that is both emotionally powerful and thought-provoking.
A dance for two, unfolding through fragments of time, the story explores the idea that everything that can happen happens somewhere else, and that for every choice we make, there are a thousand other worlds in which a different choice was made.
The two actors, Pietro Micci and Elena Lietti, deliver intense and nuanced performances, moving between multiple versions of their characters and shifting from comedy to drama within a matter of minutes. Lietti won the 2022 Franco Enriquez National Award for Best Actress for this production.
A love story about chance, choice and all the lives we might have lived — and, ultimately, about what it means to be human.
