The opening concert of the Chamber Music Season at Teatro Gerolamo celebrates Benjamin Britten on the 50th anniversary of his death, exploring his profound dialogue with musical tradition and his remarkable ability to transform it into a distinctive and deeply personal language. From Purcell's Chacony, reimagined by Britten through a twentieth-century sensibility, to Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances, united by a vision of the past as a living, vibrant source of musical inspiration, the programme brings together different forms of creative reinvention. Completing this journey are the sparkling vitality of Britten's Simple Symphony, fashioned from themes composed in his youth, and the suspended lyricism of Barber's String Quartet, Op. 11, whose expressive intensity enters into an ideal dialogue with Britten's poetic universe.
