Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano
For several evenings, around 1 a.m. in the morning, I went again to see the Cathedral. Illuminated by a beautiful moon, this church offers a spectacle of extraordinary beauty, unique in the world. Architecture has never given me such sensation. (Stendhal)
The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano is the historic institution responsible for the preservation and enhancement of Milan Cathedral. Established in 1387 at the initiative of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Lord of Milan, to oversee the design and construction of the monument, it has worked for more than 630 years on the conservation and restoration of the Duomo, the custodianship of the Cathedral, support for its liturgical activities, and the promotion of its artistic and cultural heritage, while securing the resources necessary for its maintenance.
The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano is an ecclesiastical institution with legal personality by virtue of its historical status. Its purpose is exclusively religious and charitable, with no profit-making objectives.ù
The daily activities of the Veneranda Fabbrica span a wide range of operational areas. These include welcoming more than 3 million visitors and pilgrims to the Monumental Complex each year, as well as managing the Restoration Workshops, the Duomo Museum, the Archive and Library, and the renowned Musical Chapel.
