Andrée Ruth Shammah’s latest major hit returns to the stage—a production that has drawn over 30,000 audience members, immersing them in a profound and moving human experience, as evidenced by the countless messages received from teenagers, parents, psychologists, and young people in treatment.
Five young actors, remarkable for their expressive maturity, portray a group of teenagers admitted to a mental health facility. Isolated and fragile, yet driven by an urgent and shared need to live, they find a path to themselves through theater classes with their teacher, Dorit. Theater thus becomes healing, play, and salvation. A true story, inspired by the real-life experience of author Roy Chen, directed with grace and emotional power by Shammah.
Playwright Roy Chen wrote the play following 6 months of research in a Psychiatric Hospital. The result blends dark humor with wit and sincerity, and creates a world which is both poetic and raw. Anybody Here celebrates the healing power of theatre in the hopes of raising the bar of compassion ever so slightly.
The play was translated into English, Italian, German, Russian and Hungarian.
