Il berretto a sonagli
Silvio Orlando plays Ciampa, one of the most extraordinary characters in Pirandello’s theater.
On stage, one of Pirandello’s sharpest and most ruthless plays unfolds—a comedy in which the grotesque and the tragic coexist to the point of becoming indistinguishable.
In his first theatrical encounter with the great Sicilian author, Silvio Orlando lends voice and depth to a character who is “vividly alive” and “brimming with tragic humanity,” as Pirandello himself described him. Humiliated and dragged through the mud by the world’s judgment, Ciampa counters the obtuseness of others with a fierce and disarming irony, before sinking into the painful realization that truth, on its own, is not enough to change the rules of social life.
A classic that, under Andrea Baracco’s direction, reveals its full theatrical power, its most visceral soul, and a surprising relevance: a Pirandello who is alive, corrosive, and restless, suspended between black comedy and psychological thriller, capable of cornering the audience in the face of the hypocrisy, conformism, and violence hidden behind the veneer of “conventions.”
