Prosciutto di Parma Museum
Created in collaboration with the Prosciutto di Parma Consortium, the museum in Langhirano tells the story of the history and production of Prosciutto di Parma PDO across eight sections, from the local area and pig breeds to the art of ham-making.
The “Prosciutto di Parma Museum” is a cultural facility established by local authorities in collaboration with the Prosciutto di Parma Consortium, located in Langhirano near Parma. The exhibition explores the history, the local area and the production stages of Prosciutto di Parma PDO, highlighting the interplay between the environment, agricultural practices and artisanal expertise. Divided into several sections, the museum explores the role of the Parma region, the breeds of pig, the use of salt and the tradition of local pork butchery, before placing the product within the context of the province’s gastronomic culture.
The visit concludes with a tasting session at the museum’s Prosciutteria. Thanks to the Protection Consortium, this museum illustrates the uniqueness of Prosciutto di Parma PDO through its historical and regional narrative, combining the protection of the designation with the cultural promotion of its place of origin.
