Fondazione Qualivita
A non-profit organization founded in Siena in 2000 to promote and protect high-quality agri-food and wine products recognized under the European PDO, PGI and TSG schemes.
The Foundation carries out research, analysis, training, communication and knowledge-sharing activities in support of the Geographical Indications system, working in partnership with protection Consortia, public institutions, research organizations, companies, and national and international partners. Through its projects, Qualivita contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of PDO and PGI territories and to raising awareness of Italy’s high-quality agri-food sector.
Over the years, Qualivita has developed a substantial body of data, expertise and tools serving the sector. These include Qualigeo, the information platform dedicated to European Geographical Indication products (www.qualigeo.eu); the Atlante Qualivita, published by Treccani; and observatories focusing on the “Dop economy” and PDO Tourism. The latter area is supported by the www.turismodop.it portal, which collects and promotes food and wine tourism initiatives linked to PDO and PGI products and to the activities of protection Consortia.
The founding members of Qualivita are Origin Italia – Italian Association of Geographical Indication Consortia, CSQA Certificazioni, RINA Agrifood, and the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute. Fondazione Qualivita is also recognized by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture as an organization with a high level of technical and scientific expertise in the field of high-quality agri-food products, with particular reference to PDO, PGI and TSG products.
