Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa

How does one train to disappear? Marco D’Agostin and Marta Ciappina, with the complicity of some of the most important artists from Italian and international dance and theatre, portray the metamorphosis of a dancer, in a show-documentary that accompanies her dance as her body seeks new forms of presence.

Following the co-production Gli anni – winner in 2023 of two Ubu Awards for best dance performance and best performer – a new encounter between Marco D’Agostin and Marta Ciappina.Catalogo is a dissertation in performance form on the desire to resist on stage solely through a perpetual series of farewells. Catalogo is also an experiment in shared authorship: it contains fragments of choreography by a range of artists – a series of farewell dances that can be leafed through like objects in an art book. Catalogo is, lastly, an attempt to put off the final farewell, exactly like those evenings among friends that seem about to end, until someone finds an excuse for a last cigarette, a last glass of something, or a final anecdote. Spectators who remain once the credits have rolled will be invited to participate in an extreme attempt at survival... no-one wants to stop dancing and every invitation to continue is an opportunity to admire every centimetre of available space that lies between dance and death.
