Città sola
An immersive optical and auditory device for a single narrative voice, Città sola is the theatrical variant of a multimedia project created by lacasadargilla. In seven chapters dedicated to Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol, David Wojnarowicz, Henry Darger, Klaus Nomi, Josh Harris and Zoe Leonard, New York is transformed into all the cities that we have crossed, expressing a form of solitude that is uniquely urban.
An immersive optical and auditory device for a single narrative voice, Città sola – inspired by the hybrid novel by Olivia Laing – is the theatrical variant of project by lacasadargilla and based on the podcast/performance realised for the 2022 Presente Indicativo Festival. A walk in seven chapters for seven special tenants: Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol, David Wojnarowicz, Henry Darger, Klaus Nomi, Josh Harris, Zoe Leonard. Across two vertical writing boards flow views of the city, glowing lights and fragments of the artists’ works. The soundscape blends the atmosphere of the night, sounds of the city, jazz, rock, pop and New York folk music. The city enters the scene: the neon light of the night, the brownstones, the traffic, the gurgling pipes. The text flows within this space through sound devices and reading supports that allow the performer to wander, like Laing, through the lives and bodies of her lonely city.
Duration: 1 hour and 20 minutes without intermission
