L’Arlecchino delle marionette
On the occasion of the season that marks the 80th anniversary of the Piccolo, the puppets from the Carlo Colla & Figli Company play tribute to the theatre that has hosted them for thirty-five years – with more than eight hundred performances! – with a new show in which Goldoni’s Servant meets Strehler’s Arlecchino.
The aim of the project by the Carlo Colla & Figli Company to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Piccolo is not to produce a miniature version of the famous Arlecchino servitore di due padroni by Giorgio Strehler, but rather to translate its spirit and energy into the poetic language of puppets. The dramatic, rhythmic and dynamic development of the tale sees a series of scenes of prose interspersed with moments of pantomime: although the puppets do not possess the expressive range of actors, they are, however, able to render the presence of the characters in an extraordinary evocative manner through gesture and movement. Goldoni’s writings and Strehler’s teachings serve as guides for a journey of intrigue, jokes and disguise that travels the threads leading spectators and puppeteers to another dimension.
