Mont Ventoux
«Today, driven by the sole desire to see a place famous for its altitude, I have climbed the highest mountain in this region». In 1336, Francesco Petrarca wrote Ascent of Mont Ventoux. This is the source of inspiration for Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa / KOR’SIA, developing the choreography that lies at the centre of the co-production between the Piccolo Teatro and the Teatro alla Scala. The show sees the La Scala Corps de Ballet perform for the first time at the Teatro Strehler.
A new chapter for the historical collaboration between the Teatro alla Scala and the Piccolo Teatro, for the 80th anniversary of the Piccolo, with a co-production project focusing on contemporary dance. At the Teatro Strehler, dancers from the La Scala Ballet Company, directed by Frédéric Olivieri, will be performing Mont Ventoux, a choreographic work created by Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa for the KOR’SIA company. Inspired by Ascent of Mont Ventoux by Francesco Petrarca, Mont Ventoux moves the symbolic clime to the present: the trek up the Provence mountain is transformed into choreography to examine a period of collective uncertainty and urgency, while bodies seek a new balance between humanity, nature and community.
