Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa

«An extremely comical play that, in my opinion, is the most tragic that I have ever written»: Salvo Ficarra, Carolina Rosi and Nicola Di Pinto are the stars of the play by Eduardo and directed by Luca De Filippo, the exhilarating story of a man at the mercy of gambling and superstition.

The main character in the comedy written by Eduardo De Filippo in 1940 is Ferdinando Quagliuolo, who runs a lottery kiosk and is obsessed with superstition and gambling. Convinced that his late father will send him winning lottery numbers via his dreams, his life is spent waiting for the right combination. Yet something goes wrong, and the dead man appears in the dreams of one of his employees, Mario Bertolini, giving him the lucky numbers. He plays them and wins a considerable sum. For Ferdinando, this is an outrage: that dream, those numbers and that win should be his. Because the father is “his” – and with him the good fortune...
Eleven years on from the death of Luca De Filippo, Carolina Rosi – joined on stage by Salvo Ficarra and Nicola Di Pinto – brings his last directed play back to the stage.
