Tacet
A theatrical script that explores time through the silence and precision of bodies. A precise and radical experience, where theatre serves as an observatory of the present and a workshop on time, memory and listening. Six performers, metronomes, timelines and a few sparse tools for exploring time and presenting it as living matter.
The play is based on the idea that dramaturgy represents a temporal map, a sextant for a journey following the various grains of time, a map to cross the seconds and the pauses that only theatre can express. The actors work with sound and voice. The stage becomes a workshop where silence is desired, measured,examined, displayed and dissected. “Some time ago”, explains Jacopo Giacomoni, performer and author of the dramaturgy, “I found a book that I had been looking for for years. It is called Cartographies of Time and it is a collection of maps that describe time rather than space The same term could be used for dramaturgy, which is, fundamentally a series of maps for actors and spectators that allow an exploration of the core aspect of theatre: time”. Tacet is a chorus of silences that embrace personal and collective rituals - such as a minute of silence in a stadium, parliament or classroom – and is structured on the basis of precise geometry: six lines that cross, overlap or run parallel, in a theatrical form of synchronicity between moments in history and everyday silences. “Tacet puts the performers to the test”, adds the director Silvia Costa, “it is a constant experiment that takes place before the audience, because it requires millisecond precision, while we are presences escaping time. This is where the strength of Tacet lies, in the mathematical friction of six clocks that mark an organic form of time. Six hearts that beat and keep time”
