OSCAR
Is it better to give in to love or to fight for your ideals? What are we willing to sacrifice? What is more powerful, a sense of loyalty or a sense of justice? In this new chapter of her collaboration with Antonio Latella, Sonia Bergamasco plays the heroine raised as a man and searching for the final fragment she needs to fully discover her identity.
A woman awakens at dawn in a field; she appears to have lost her memory. With the help of her lifelong friend, Oscar gradually reconstructs her story: her upbringing and training as a soldier, to become commander of the French Royal Guard, her relationship with Marie Antoinette, to whom she practically represented a guardian angel, her idealised love for the same Swedish count loved by the queen, and the discovery of a living, suffering population. In the meantime, the world witnesses the birth of a new idea...
“Linda Dalisi’s Oscar”, comments Antonio Latella, “has abandoned her home and everything she believed in to witness the disintegration of her city and her people. As soon as Oscar sees, she becomes incomplete, and it is this incompleteness that moves me”.
