Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa

A man, a woman and a love story that lasts a lifetime. The first Italian language production by Tiago Rodrigues is a moving theatrical melody. Isabella Ragonese and Francesco Alberici star in this tribute to the strength of emotion, the only thing that matters when all seems lost.

Tiago Rodrigues, here directing a production for the Piccolo for the first time in Italian, stages one of his most successful works, which performed for the first time in Paris and then travelled to other European nations. With four “songs” that symbolise four stages of life, he composes the moving melody of a love story between a man and a woman. «We have time» is the mantra of the two protagonists of this extraordinary polyphony in the form of a duet. They speak in unison – as all those in love do – but at times the words are different, and here and there, memories and thoughts contradict each other. The beginning is breathtaking: she has an asthma attack while they are at home watching Scarface, and he takes her to hospital, driving at breakneck speed. For a moment they fear they have lost each other, but she is saved and the song of life and love continues: «We have time», the two protagonists continuously tell each other, as their “parallel lives” cross the various stages of existence: work, family, endless insignificances and wonderful aspects of everyday life. An extraordinary moment of theatre, a delicate reflection on feelings, on the fragility of life and on the transformations encountered over the years in a loving relationship between two people.
