«With this play, I will try harder than ever to be a director-performer, not daring to alter a single note of the score, like a talented orchestra conductor, rather than a director-demiurge striving to take over as the true author of the play»: Luca De Fusco stages the «almost Chekhovian» play by Eduardo.
At the Priore home, preparations are in full swing for Sunday lunch. Rosa is supervising the lengthy cooking of the ragu, a domestic ritual that is the fulcrum of family life. However, the friendly atmosphere is sullied by growing tension: Peppino, Rosa’s husband, is convinced that his wife is becoming a little too friendly with Ianniello, an accountant who is a regular participant in their day-to-day lives...Eduardo “said that he was a forerunner in addressing the theme of divorce, but I don’t agree. At times, the work digresses from the intentions of its creator”, comments Luca De Fusco. “On the contrary, I believe that the peaceful reconciliation between Rosa and Peppino is more moving now that it used to be because it highlights the ability of this grand family to resolve conflicts”.
